My client is a communications agency with various offices across the UK. They are expanding their Manchester team and are looking to appoint a new Account Director.


Clients are B2B focused and interior, healthcare, transport, travel, retail, recruitment, finance and equity firms.


Working logistics – split between the Manchester office and home.


You will be responsible for leading a team of consultancy staff to deliver a first-class service and high levels of client satisfaction against regularly reviewed objectives. You will identify and develop new business leads and actively contribute to sustained business growth. Maintain a motivated team of professionals whose development needs are recognised and addressed. Set strategic targets, control the resources of the team and contribute to the overall profitability of the company.


Key Tasks:

  • Be accountable for the team’s operational success and have the ultimate responsibility for ensuring that clients feel they are getting consistently excellent consultancy advice and value
  • Set strategic targets for the team to ensure delivery of objectives that will contribute to the overall profit of the company
  • Manage the composition, motivation and creativity of a high performing team
  • Take a leading role in securing new business, including actively seeking leads, writing proposals/presentations and attending pitches
  • Develop a personal network, regularly attending networking opportunities and maintaining a focus on business development including participation in sector BD groups.
  • Promote the agency, contributing blogs/articles, social media content, speaking at events and developing opportunities to showcase the attributes of the agency
  • Lead by example in fostering a positive and upbeat workplace culture, reflecting the agency at its best and reinforcing positive behaviours that demonstrate company values
  • Assist colleagues in identifying appropriate strategies and campaign plans with creative approaches in order to enhance the service to the client
  • Build excellent relationships with clients, manage their account on a continuing basis and ensure a comprehensive understanding of their business objectives in order to deliver a high level of support.
  • Manage the team, possibly comprising of a range of staff such as Senior Account Managers, Account Managers, Senior Account Executives and Account Executives, motivating and monitoring their performance and development
  • Produce and support the team to deliver high quality content in order to ensure appropriate coverage/outcomes according to client objectives



  • Write speeches/articles/statements/thought leadership and ghost write for clients, as required
  • Maintain accurate records of costs and projected revenues to meet profitability targets
  • Respond quickly to crisis management situations on behalf of clients; taking a high profile role on their behalf if necessary
  • Liaise with client personnel, up to and including Board level, as well as senior representatives of public bodies, industry committees and subcontractors, etc.
  • Demonstrate strategic planning, developing strategies to satisfy the needs of the client and deliver agreed KPIs – using knowledge of media, skills, experience, contacts and imagination to achieve targets and regularly exceed expectations
  • Facilitate client workshops to support strategy development and ensure that objectives/KPIs are met and results are regularly and proactively reported.
